FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do all states require nursing CE?

No. About a dozen states have no CE requirement for RN renewal and rely on practice-hour or self-attestation models. The rest require 10–45 contact hours per renewal cycle.

What if I'm licensed in multiple states?

Meet the strictest state's requirement and document it. Most boards accept CE that satisfies another state's accredited-provider standard.

How often do CE requirements change?

States periodically add mandatory topics (opioids, implicit bias, human trafficking, suicide assessment). Always verify the current rule on your state board's website before renewal.

Are practice hours an alternative to CE?

In many states, yes — boards accept a minimum number of recent practice hours instead of (or alongside) CE. Check your state's specific pathway.
